Arrived on a Sunday, cold cuts for lunch. Others throwing up because of the stress. Managed to keep mind down.
Formed the Plt and marched down the grinder at o-dark-30 to Quonset hut and tried to sleep. Thirsty, could hear water running, but did not dare to look for it.
One D.I. relieved of duty for smashing an M-1 on a recruits toes because he made to much noise setting his rifle on the grinder. Meeting with a D.I. who stated that he never touched us and we agreed.
Walking post in the early morning, could hear someone in the receiving barrack catching hell. Glad I did not have to stay there.
Camp Matthews had an I.G. inspection when we fired. Out door BBQ with big steaks.
Heard a ruckus in the street between the tents. One Capt and two D.I.s were telling one recruit who had his sea bag on his shoulder to get out of their Marine Corps. Ran him to the fence and had him throw his sea bag over and the climb over himself.
On the firing line (500), I think, firing when someone came out of the butts at a trot. Cease fire was called and a few drill instructors hustled out to greet the lad.
On the march back from Matthews, had one or two that did not qualify. They were running circles around the platoon as we marched. A few others were falling out along side the road. Corpman picked them up, I think.
Was in a movie about Ira Hayes starring Tony Curtis as an extra. Ran a lot of the obstacle course one day so they could get the shots they wanted.
Went to a Chargers Football game one Sunday. Remember the D.I. on duty saying he had better things for us to be doing.
On one hot day, on the obstacle course, a few were dropping in the water to cool off. Shortly there after, we did a lot of "get up and downs" in the sand.
