No action at the "O" club so had to drop in and say greetings to all Marines. Won't say how old I am but General Randolph McCall Pate was my first Commandant and General Jones was my last. I harken back to the days when the messhall served SOS and rations came in cans with such endearing names as Ham and MFers, Beans & Wieners, Beef, Peas & Gravy and all of Korean vintage. We even looked forward to K-Rations in the field mess.
Enough history - For more current news, General Pace was stabbed in the back because he spoke his mind on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell - pure politics and nothing else. A mighty OOOOOORRRRAAAHHHH for our First ever Marine Chairman of JCS.

SOS and C-rats....aaaaaaaaa what memories you speak of sir.

I was in supply during my time in the green machine and remember eating C-rats with dates BEFORE my time and I was born in 1947. Go figure we Marines ate that old stuff and still had the strength to fight like hell.

CPL Miller:

Thanks for the welcome and I too was a Supply Marine (3043 and 3010) as well as a 1371, 6413, 3510, 0430, and 7204. In last 6 years I was back in my primary of 3010 as the Ground Supply Officer. Back in those younger and leaner years we fit the motto - First to Fight and we did it all. With girl friends stretching from San Diego to Hong Kong and all points in between and still had time to do what they hired us for.

Can't run a war without beans, blankets and bullets and there is only one place to get them - Supply.

Supply, the place to get it all. There's a reason everyone had to be nice to the supply Sgt or YOU ain't gett'en shit from MY stores. yuk yuk yuk.

From 1965 to 68 my company was in direct support of the 1st Mar Div at Da Nang. Our unit also supplied a Korean Marine division at the same time.
From 65 to 68 we had one of the largest Marine Corps companies, something like 1200 Marines. Hell, we had 350 Marines just in our platoon.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO the memories, like it all happened yesterday.

Carry On SIR!!

Thanks for the welcome, saw your post in TWS Cpl Miller, I was an 0331, ate nothing but C rats, it was nice once in awhile to have hot chow in the field though. One 90 day Op in the field we had 2 hot meals, Thanksgiving and the Marine Corps BD.

Sounds more like a Supply Battalion rather than a company. When I was enlisting in the Corps my uncle - a WWII Marine Vet, told me there were three people I needed to know and impress - The First Sergeant so I'd always have liberty, The Mess Sergeant so I could slip into mid-rats after liberty and the Supply Sergeant so I'd never be missing gear during a junk on the bunk. Still works today.

Hey Sea Soldier - my hat is off to the Grunts in our Corps and always will be but when the stuff hits the fan, we're all grunts. When those mortars dropped into DaNang and other base camps, the MOS didn't matter as everyone was defending the line and everyone had their cheeks puckered hoping the next one wasn't in your hole or bunker.

Didn't matter in Beirut what your MOS was when the buidling collapsed - just that you were a Marine who was killed because of politics. We all bleed green. If that gate guard had had a magazine in his weapon, there would have been no tragedy.

As a SUPO my motto was never an athlete, always an athletic supporter - a necessary supporter. As a Motor T Maintenance Officer our motto was, Motor T may not be the pride, but without Motor T the pride won't ride.

When I was a helo mech it came closer to, you want to walk back home - get in and be quiet.

Just remember, God loves his Marines.

we (1st Mar. Div. Pendleton) had a fun time for three weeks playing a war game just before the Division headed to Nam.
Found out fast what it was like eating C-rats and getting a hot meal once a week, IF that. My heart goes out to all the grunts that played the REAL game of war.

Must admit though, did a hunting trip in the hills of Denver a few years back and for shits and giggles brought a bunch of Military MRE's I had. After the first meal or two found eating dirt taste better. I couldn't beleive I was looking in the pack to see if I had any C-Rats. And to think there ain't ONE pack of cig's in them things (MRE's). ha ha
