Bob, Yucca Flats? Is that where they had the A bomb tests?
I got to PI Aug. 6, 1956. I was only in Pendelton June 1958, for training, before we crossed the big pond to Okinawa.
At Sea we would joke, saying "I hope the ship doesn't get too close to the edge, and go off it"
Have a happy new year. Ken Rohlff 1626455 56-59

Yeah , Yucca Flats was where they tested the A-bomb. July of 57 I was a 18 year old kid bored with the shops, was a 2111 small arms repair. They asked for some volinters for a closed mission. I raised my hand, found myself sitting talking to a FBI agent for a security clearance. Next thing was on a plane out of El Toro headed for the Nevada desert. From a Air Force base called Indian Springs was trucked by desile cattle trucks to a Army base called Camp Desrock. there spent three weeks in tents waiting for a A-bomb test in a six foot trench, several miles away from point of impact. got a free tyrip into Las Vegas one week-end. couldent do a damn thing because was only 18, wound up seeing the Jack Weeb movie the DI with severak hundred other young Marines. Would have been in 11 area when yu were on Pendelton. If you want more details of Yucca flats check my blog at ramblingbob.wordpress.com see Yucca Flats and return to Yucca Flats entrys. PS often asked if I glow in the dark, reply is no I'm just another dim bulb in the pack
