Something else, the changes in everything that was familiar to me. Wore Utilities (green); PT was a yellow T-shirt with red shorts; Khakis were daily for me but did not have short sleeves. Trops were still summer dress when we graduated. (I recall because I was ordered to press all uniforms in the platoon, this because I was the only one who knew how.) Of course, there was that chrome dome we wore.

Was told that 1961 records were destroyed by fire. However I did see that someone had listed Plt#337 from that series #336. To Administrators, I'm 70 now but as I had discussed with you earlier, was going to get spinal surgery before I lost any more use of arms, hands, etc. Seems the fall that broke my back in four places will on duty years ago (T11-12; L1 & 2) smash a couple in my neck. All is fused and I'm recovering wearing full hard neck brace and then a soft collar. I just wish I could shorten the search for my book to give my Marine son before I pass. Do have a step grandson at Lejeune now and and a second shipping out to PI Jun this year (2015). Got to admit, we keep in the family, the best for the best. Any body, Please help. I lost my book while moving years ago and it's eating me up that I have nothing from the best year of my life and it'd blow me away if anyone has it. Semper Fi and thank you for this.

Looking for anything on MCRDSD 1985, PLT 2095. Husband to retire this year after 30 years and would love to have some photos from his early days!

Thank you in advance!

Cpl Miller 02-03-2015 06:49 PM

Any chance you graduated in Dec of 85, we have platoon 2091 in the month of Nov, that's why I'm asking?

I looked in his medical record and while the paper is very old and not in too good of shape it does look like PLT 2095 but it is NOV 10th. So I wonder? Do you have something?

Sent a request to SD MCRD a few years ago for a boot camp pic after I got the address from Cpl Miller. Original platoon was 1107 that should have graduated in Dec 1966. Because of cracking my right knee cap I was dropped from training and sent to casual company until I healed then was sent back to training. I thought my new platoon was 1140 but according to MCRD when I requested my pic they inform me that there was no platoon 1140. Would really like to have a pic from boot camp. If anyone can locate that pic from platoon 1107 I would appreciate it.

Searching for Dad, basic plt 168 1st b., in 1974 P.I., Gunnery Sgt D.I.,P.I. 1982-84

Hello and thanks to all
My dad was a Marine and lost his photos. He went to Parris Island in 1974, 1st bat platoon 169 around Sept/October.
He returned as a D.I. at Parris from 82-84 all A company 1st battalion.
He was Gunnery Sgt Ezell.

If anyone has anything, pics, memories, ect, please email me. I'm trying to make a book for him, so scans and such are very welcome as I will download them into a book to be printed.

Thank you, and thank you for your service. I'm the daughter, and granddaughter, of Marines...much respect.

Great idea. I am sure your dad will love whatever you can put together.
I do not have the graduation book but have a couple of ideas for your search.
1. Call PI... 843-228-1555. They have some platoon photos available for purchase. They have them cataloged by DI name. You might be able to find the platoon photos of platoons for which he was a DI. They cost about $11 each. They do NOT have copies of books....only some group pix.
2. There are DI groups/associations. I don't have the names handy...I will try to find some.... but since he was a former DI, I would assume that other DIs would we willing to help you. ASK PI about DI associations or search online. You might even be able to find his DI from 1974. That DI might have the graduation book.
3. I am pretty sure there are some DIs on this site. Maybe they can weigh in and point you in the direction of the associations or other groups.
4. Do you have a copy of his military records? That might help in locating DIs or the numbers of platoons that he was the DI for. Go to http://www.archives.gov/st-louis/mil...o.html#mprfoia to request his military records. It takes about 6 wks to get the records.

If I can find the names or a contact name for a DI association I will reply again. Good luck. Finding these pix is not as easy as you might think. There is no one repository for the pictures. But whatever you find, I am sure your dad will love it. For further info, you can PM me through this site and I will send you my email. Geri

Cpl Miller 07-24-2016 08:07 AM

Presently we do not list this platoon in our database so what Geri is suggesting is a good way to go for now....

Good luck

East Coast Drill Instructors Association http://parrisislanddi.org/
(And they play the Marine Hymn when you open the page...always worth a listen!! )

Also try Togetherweserved.com (as a family member you can join... I don't know if there is a charge). Search by the platoon number to try to find platoon members. If you do, then ask them to copy/scan the book.

Congratulations go out to Kenny Harper

Although originally Kenny was sending us a copy of his platoon graduation picture he had no idea we had his platoon series book on file. What a surprise when he found we had his book when he had lost his years ago. Nice trade as I joked with him, you send platoon pciture we send you your graduation book.....FREE I might add.

Needless to say he is one happy camper. Turns out his book was one of over 300 books donated to the Yellow footprints collection. I am sure his donor is just as happy. As a side note, when you donated one of the books to our collection we will notify you when we find it a home.......Semper Fi people..

You can view his platoon section here:
