Post William A. Dunlap, 79, Lee's Summit, MO

William Albert Dunlap, 79, of Lee's Summit, Mo., died Thursday morning, October 1, 2009, at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Warrensburg, Mo. The son of Listen Kenneth and Evah Maude (Wolfe) Dunlap, he was born October 15, 1929, in Sullivan County, Mo. On May 21, 1954, in Kansas City, Mo., he married Mary Jo King, who survives. Also surviving are two sisters: Mary Ann Moomaw, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Judy Dunlap, of Raytown, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: William B. Dunlap on July 21, 1982, and Robert B. Dunlap on June 2, 2003, and one brother, Kenneth "Dude" Dunlap. Bill was raised in Sullivan county and graduated from Milan (Mo.) High School in 1949.
He served with the United States Marine Corps in the Korean War.
Following the war, he moved to Kansas City, where he was employed with General Motors and in construction. In 1967, he and his wife opened a Kawasaki Motorcycle dealership in Kansas City and over the next several years opened three more in the area. In 1980, they moved to Sedalia, where he sold satellite antennas. They returned to the Kansas City area in 1985 and had lived in Kearney and for the past several years in Lee's Summit. Bill was a licensed pilot and had bought and sold more than 100 airplanes during his career. He was a member of the Shriner's Club in Sedalia and a member of the First Methodist Church in Milan. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 4, in the Glenn E. Kent & Son Funeral Home in Green City, Mo., with burial in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Green City. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Olivet Cemetery or Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg and may be sent to Glenn E. Kent & Son Funeral Home, PO Box 308, Green City, MO 63545.
