Vern Ahlborg, 79, Racine, WI

RACINE - Vern Ahlborg passed away at the home of his daughter on October 30, 2009. He was 79 years old and had battled Alzheimer's disease for three years. He was surrounded by his family when he went to his eternal rest.

Vern was born in Racine, on March 21, 1930 and attended local schools graduating from Horlick High School. He was the son of the late Emil and Martha Ahlborg. He was a resident of Racine until the age of 70 when he moved to Sheboygan Falls fulfilling his dream of country life. He returned to Racine in April of 2008. On February 3, 1957 Vern married the love of his life, the late Robertine Sarto. She preceded him in death on November 17, 1987 at the age of 56. Vern proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marines from August 1951 to August 1953. Upon his return to Racine, he and 'Bootsie' began their family and raised three children together. His children are Patti (Dr. Robert) Wenberg of Kohler; Robert (Kristie) Ahlborg of Kohler; Susan (Ray) Zeyen of Racine. He is the proud 'Papa' to ten grandchildren who he enjoyed spending time with Dan and Kate Shockley, Kaleigh, Madeline and Sam Wenberg, Patrick, Conner, Kali, Adrienne and Gavin Ahlborg. Many hours were spent looking over their Papa's coins and stamps, fishing and hanging out at his farm. There was always some new treasure to be discovered at Papa's house or in his garage.

Vern's parents, Emil and Martha, his two brothers Elmer and Robert preceded him in death. His sister Martha Fuller survives him. He is further survived by two brother-in-laws Richard (Lorna) Patrick, (Denise) Sarto; and one sister-in-law, Ursula Kant; nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice Alliance and his niece Leslie O'Shea for the care they provided. In addition, the family would like to thank Vern/Papa's many friends from Kohler and Sheboygan Falls. He enjoyed many happy times living there.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday November 5th 2009 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Racine. Visitation with the family will be Thursday at the church for 9 a.m. until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the family to distribute to their chosen charity. CASEY FAMILY OPTIONS FUNERALS AND CREMATIONS Stephen P. Casey, Funeral Director (262) 554-6533
