Hazen Edward Ward 84, Indianapolis, IN

Hazen Edward Ward 84, of Indianapolis, passed away August 11, 2009 at the Roudebush VA Medical Center. He was born on December 10, 1924 in Traders Point, IN. to Thomas and Katie (Knipp) Ward. He Married Diana Morehouse, who survives him, on August 26, 1952 in Andover, SD. He is survived by daughters, Gayle (Mark) Harrell of Centerville, IN. and Brenda Ward of Camby, IN.; granddaughters, Katie (Dominic) DeLucio of Richmond, IN. and Heather Harrell of Centerville, IN.; sister, Mary Slagle of Lebanon, IN.; sister-in-law, Fern Ward of Thorntown, IN.; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Mr. Ward grew up in Boone County, IN, and graduated from Pinnell High School. He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving in World War II and the Korean War. He retired in 1987 from Allison Division of General Motors after 37 years. He was Past Master of Celestial Masonic Lodge # 525 in Whitestown, IN., a life member of the Hiram I. Bearss Marine Corps League, life member of Disabled Veterans of America, and a life member of the Loyal Escorts. He was also a 50 year member of Salem United Methodist Church, Zionsville, IN., a member of American Legion Post 79, Zionsville, IN., and a member of the World War II Round Table.
Mr. Ward was a volunteer fireman with Pike Township for 25 years, a volunteer at Roudebush VA Medical Center for 15 years, and a Kentucky Colonel.
Mr. Ward was preceded in death by his parents; brother Kenneth Ward; and sisters, Mamie Gates and Martha Wilcox.
Calling will be Thursday, August 13, 2009 from 4 - 8 p.m. at {{{ Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center, }}} Zionsville, IN. with Marine Corps League services at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, August 14, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, Zionsville with burial following at Salem Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Roudebush VA Medical Center, attn: Mike Wright, 1481 West 10th Street, INdianapolis, IN. 46202, Salem United Methodist Church Building Fund, 6701 S. 800 E. Zionsville, IN. 46077, or the Harine Corps League Building Fund, P.O. Box 2351, Indianapolis, IN.
