Veterans Day in Sheboygan County, WI

There will be several presentations and programs to honor veterans all around Sheboygan County in recognition of Veterans Day, according to the Sheboygan County Veterans Service Office.

All the programs are open to the public.

They include:

Friday, Nov. 9
*9:30 a.m., City of Sheboygan Veterans Day program, at North High School, 1042 School Ave.

The program includes North High students, the Prescott Bayens Post 83, American Legion, Sheboygan, and a rifle volley and the playing of taps by a ceremonial unit from Sheboygan Memorial Post 9156, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

*9:30 a.m., at Plymouth Comprehensive High School, 125 Highland Ave. Plymouth. Hosted by Worlds Cheese Center Post 5612 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, with rifle volley and taps by a ceremonial unit from Post 5612.

*10:30 a.m., at Plymouth Riverview Middle School. Speaker is Vaughn Larson, a veteran of the Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Hosted by the Ladwig Zinkgraf American Legion Post 243, Plymouth. Rifle volley and taps by ceremonial unit from Post 243.

*11:30 a.m., Plymouth Parkview Elementary School. Hosted by Ladwig Zinkgraf American Legion Post 243, Plymouth. Rifle volley and taps by ceremonial unit from Post 243.

*8:30 a.m., Sheboygan Falls Middle School, Sheboygan Falls.

Program presented by the student body, with rifle volley and taps by ceremonial unit from Fredricks-Mueller-Norgaard American Legion Post 149, Sheboygan Falls.

*9 a.m., Elkhart Lake Elementary School, Elkhart Lake. Flag raising, followed by Haslee Doebert Schmidt American Legion Post 261 members who will share memories with students.

*11 a.m., Elkhart Lake High School. Posting of colors by Haslee Doebert Schmidt American Legion Post 261, and a program by Elkhart Lake students.

Saturday, Nov. 10
*8:30 a.m., "Honoring Our Namesakes," at the Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery, Plymouth. A ceremonial unit of the Ladwig Zinkgraf American Legion Post 243 will travel to the cemetery and gravesite of Pvt. Walter S. Ladwig and to the Plymouth Union Cemetery to the memorial marker of Pfc. Clarence Zinkgraf.

The chaplain will have a brief reading and the ceremonial unit will perform a rifle volley and taps. The unit will them return to the Post 243 headquarters at 40 Stafford St., Plymouth, for a 232nd birthday celebration of the United States Marine Corps.

Sunday, Nov. 11
*10:30 a.m., St. John's Lutheran Church, Main and Stafford streets, Plymouth. Special Freedom Day service. Veterans are encouraged to attend.

*12:15 p.m., Veterans Memorial Trail, Mill and North streets, Plymouth. The ceremony will include a rifle volley and the playing of taps by World's Cheese Center Post 5612, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Monday, Nov. 12
*2:15 p.m., Sunny Ridge Nursing Home, 3014 Erie Ave., Sheboygan. Observance includes induction of new resident veterans on to the Sunny Ridge Wall of Fame in the main auditorium. Program presented by the Jensen VanThruler Chapter 15, Disabled American Veterans and Sheboygan County Chapter 618, Vietnam Veterans of America.

Tuesday, Nov. 13
*9:30 a.m., Rocky Knoll Health Care Center, N7135 Rocky Knoll Parkway, north of Plymouth. Hosted by Ladwig Zinkgraf American Legion Post 243, Plymouth and Haslee Doebert Schmidt American Legion Post 261, Greenbush. Vaughn Larson will be the guest speaker. The program includes induction of six new veteran residents on the Rocky Knoll Veterans Wall of Honor.
