Clyde William Schulte, 84, Huntingburg, IN

HUNTINGBURG, Ind. Clyde William Schulte, age 84, of Huntingburg, Indiana, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.


He was born on January 29, 1925, in Huntingburg to Amos and Hilda (Schulte) Schulte. He was married to Doris Jo Murray on February 16, 1950, at the Salem Church rectory in Huntingburg. Clyde was a former co-owner of the Standard Gas Station in Huntingburg and also worked for Holland Dairy. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Dubois County Lodge #520 F&AM, Hadi Shrine, Scottish Rite, Dubois County Shrine Club where he was past president in 1969, Dubois County Shriner Roadsters, and V.F.W. Post #2366. He served in World War II as a Marine in the 6th Tank Battalion and took part in the invasion of Okinawa and was present at the signing of the surrender of Japan. He was preceded in death by one sister, Melba Bretz; and four brothers, Clarence, Harold, Charles, and Arthur Schulte.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doris Jo Schulte, Huntingburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Dee Dee (John) Dippel, Evansville; one granddaughter, Lyndsay (Bob) Stuffle, Evansville, and his beloved yorkie, Princess.

Funeral services for Clyde Schulte will be held at 2 p.m., Eastern Daylight Time, Saturday, June 13, 2009, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg where the V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail will conduct military rites. He will be cremated following the funeral and his remains will be interred at Garden of Memories in Gentryville. The Rev. Don Giesmann and Rev. Ken Sherry will officiate the service.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home from 2 to 8 p.m., Friday; and also from 11 a.m. until service time on Saturday. A Masonic memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: Shriner Children's Hospital c/o the Hadi Temple or Salem Church.
