George William "Bill" Galbreath, 75, Las Vegas, NV

BOONVILLE - Former Boonville resident George William "Bill" Galbreath, 75, died at his home in Las Vegas, Nev., on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, surrounded by his loving family. George was born Aug. 18, 1931, in Johnston City, Ill., to William B. and Ida Roth Galbreath. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Phyllis Bracher Galbreath; his children, Stephanie (Martin) Burk, Tamara (Dennis) Slattery, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Richard) Pierce and George II; his grandsons, Nicholas and Taylor Burk, and Richard and Jordan Pierce, all of Las Vegas. Other survivors include siblings, Mary Russell, of Boonville, Ind., Wanda Butler, of Utica, Ky., Ruth Morrow, of Madisonville, Ky., and Jack Galbreath, of Corydon, Ind.
George graduated from Tennyson High School in 1949. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, after which he was employed by Indiana Bell Telephone Company until he moved to Nevada on 1968. There he continued telephone work with Central Telephone Company which later became Sprint and is now Embarq. He enjoyed frequent fishing and camping jaunts to Utah in the summer and Southern California and Nevada in the winter, until his health forced an early retirement. He enjoyed teaching his grandsons how to fish and having "guys only" outings for that. George enjoyed the richness and fullness of life in all its seasons and took great joy in helping his family get the most out of life.

Arrangements were handled by Palm Mortuary-Main in Las Vegas. Services and interment were private. The family requests that memorials be sent to the American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, NY 10006.
