Robert F. West, Sr., 75, Waupun, WI

WAUPUN, Wis. - Robert F. West, Sr., 75, of 553 E. Franklin St., Waupun, Wis., died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, in his home.

Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Waupun. Father John Elmer will officiate and burial will be in the Ontario (Wis.) Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, Sept. 25, 1997, at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 W. Main St., Waupun, Wis.

He was born June 11, 1922, in Ontario, Wis., to William and Ruth (Marden) West. He married Helen L. Rynes on June 30, 1942, at Mount Tabor, Wis. He lived in Ontario, Wis., until his marriage and then moved to Waupun in 1951. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Waupun. Mr. West graduated from Ontario High School in 1942. He then served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. He worked for the Wisconsin Division of Corrections, retiring in 1977. He was the First Corrections Officer to serve on the Governor's Task Force for the Division of Corrections under Gov. Sherman Dreyfus. He belonged to Duck's Unlimited, Wings over Wisconsin and State & National Trappers Association. Mr. West was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping. As a child he played on the banks of the Kickapoo River and as a young man he enjoyed the Mississippi River and after his move to Waupun the Horicon Marsh became his home away from home.

He is survived by five daughters, Constance West of La Crosse, Wis., Suzanne (Edward) Constantini of Stillwater, Minn., Joy (Lauren) Lemke of Waupun, Wis., Zona (Jon) Wagar of Valley City, N.D., Mary Hope Daher of New Brighton, Minn.; two sons, Robert (Judith) West Jr. of Waupun, Wis., and David (Ann) West of Plymouth, Wis.; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Marden (Verna) West of Waupun, Wis.; sisters-in-law, Ruby West of La Crosse and Virginia West of Florida; special friend, Dorothy Martin of Waupun, Wis.; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1992; and two brothers, Edward and Chester.
